Oberwerth Unveils World's First 1-Second Camera Holster

thumbnail

Oberwerth, the maker of premium, hand-crafted camera bags, has created the World's first 1-second camera holster that combines the safety of a camera bag with the rapid access needed for street, travel and nature photography. The 1-Second Camera Holster takes camera protection to the next level with its unique, first-of-its-kind design. It allows photographers to wear the camera across their body with a strap, while keeping the camera body with lens attached holstered at the hip. The camera is easily pulled out of the holster with one, quick motion. The premium leather design and lining is highly water resistant and is soft enough to be easily folded or rolled up and stored in a camera bag when not in use. Backers on Kickstarter can get the 1-Second Camera Holster for a $79 pledge, with some early bird offers starting at $69.

Pixentu Photography Jackets

thumbnail

For photographers tired of lugging around a camera bag, the new jackets by Pixentu offer an easier alternative. With space for fourteen separate pieces of gear (including camera, tripod, and spare battery), many photographers will find themselves able to leave their backpack at the hotel room. “We knew immediately that we wanted to launch through Kickstarter and give photographers the chance to vote on if they wanted our jackets.” One of the Pixentu designers said, “But the response we’ve received from the community has been amazing. We know we’ll do right by everyone who has done the honor of backing us.” Rather than creating one jacket and hoping it fits everyone, Pixentu offers 3 choices depending on where the photographer intends to go: a Street Photography Jacket, an Outdoor Jacket and a Travel Blazer.

Lee Reverse ND Filters

thumbnail

Lee Filters have announced a new range of Reverse ND grads. "Landscape photographers have always been drawn to the quality of light at the beginning and end of the day, but shooting during those precious seconds when the sun itself hovers above the horizon can be a tricky affair," the company said in a statement. "Controlling the exposure so that the sun is correctly exposed and balanced with the rest of the image has, in the past, meant using a very strong traditional neutral-density graduated filter, with the result being that the sky at the top of the frame appears darker than is entirely natural." Reverse ND filters solve this problem by being most dense in the centre area, rather than at the top. This allows the photographer to precisely control exposure as the sun sits on the horizon, ensuring it is balanced with the remainder of the frame. The new Lee Reverse ND grads offer an extremely smooth and gradual transition between the dyed and clear areas of the frame. Available for the Seven5, 100mm and SW150 systems, in strengths of 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 ND (which equates to two, three and four stops respectively, and relates to the density in the centre area), Lee's Reverse ND filters are available from £81.80+VAT.

Developed for full-frame Canon and Nikon cameras, this 25mm lens is suitable primarily for landscape and architecture photography and journalistic applications. “Even at full aperture, there are hardly any colour fringes,” says Christophe Casenave, Product Manager at Zeiss. “The finest details can be reproduced in high definition and contrast all the way into the corners.” The large, 172-degree focus rotation angle enables precise manual focusing, whilst the metal housing offers protective seals against dust and dirt, making the Zeiss Milvus 1.4/25 a real all-weather lens. Thanks to the de-click function in the the Nikon-mount version, the aperture can be adjusted continuously, which is great news for videographers. The Zeiss Milvus 1.4/25 retails for £1,999 including VAT (RRP) and will be available from December 2017.

Powerful images of rhino taken by some of the world’s top wildlife photographers will be unveiled at a free London exhibition and an evening of talks by leading conservationists, as the much-anticipated Remembering Rhinos book is launched this month. The beautiful photographic book is a follow-up to the hugely successful Remembering Elephants project, which last year raised over £135k for international wildlife charity Born Free’s elephant conservation work. It has gained widespread support from a host of celebrities including Russell Crowe, Chris Martin, Joanna Lumley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Amanda Holden, Emilia Fox, Caity Lotz, and Katherine Jenkins, who posed with their copy of the book as part of a social media campaign on World Rhino Day. The exhibition will be open 10am – 5pm each day until Saturday 11th November at La Galleria Pall Mall (5b Pall Mall, 30 Royal Opera Arcade, London, SW1Y 4UY) – an opportunity to view the exquisite imagery, and purchase limited edition prints and copies of the book.

Canon Produces 90 Millionth EOS Camera and 130 Millionth EF Lens

thumbnail

Canon today announced they have reached two major production milestones — a cumulative total of 90 million interchangeable-lens EOS cameras and 130 million EF-series interchangeable lenses. The EOS 5D Mark IV (pictured) was the 90 millionth EOS Series camera range to be produced, while an EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM became the company’s 130 millionth interchangeable lens. Canon’s EOS system debuted alongside the EF series of interchangeable lenses in March 1987 as the world’s first fully-electronic mount system for film AF SLR cameras. Over the years, both product lines have continued to expand, gaining support among users ranging from first-time users to professionals. Production accelerated in the early 2000’s with the spread of digital SLR cameras. Canon’s interchangeable-lens digital cameras have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 14 consecutive years since 2003.

Leica Thambar-M 1:2.2/90

thumbnail

The Leica Thambar-M 1:2.2/90 is a specialised soft-focus telephoto lens for Leica M-mount cameras. Its focal length of 90 mm is suitable for photography in a multitude of scenarios and is as good as predestined for capturing portraits with a uniquely aesthetic atmosphere that cannot be reproduced in digital postprocessing. The optical formula comprises 4 elements in 3 groups and 20-bladed iris diaphragm diaphragm that allows the lens to deliver a unique bokeh with perfectly round rendition of point light sources. The soft look of the Thambar is the result of intentionally accepted under-correction of spherical aberration. This under-correction increases towards the edges of the optical system with the consequence that not only the depth of focus, but also the degree of softening can be precisely controlled by means of the stepless aperture setting. The Leica Thambar-M 1:2.2/90 will be on sale from mid-November 2017 for £5,095.

Pholio Challenges Google Photos with AI-powered Private Search

thumbnail

In partnership with academics from the University of Oxford, a London start-up has condensed the power of cloud based visual search technology to the size of a book. The Pholio device, which can safely store or access your media all in one place, allows an incredible level of search and discovery across your photos and home videos. The software in Pholio automatically checks all images in your collections against 20,000 in-built search terms, from ‘birthday’ to ‘christmas’ and ‘house renovation’.  By keying a relevant search term into a browser on a connected TV screen, tablet, phone or laptop at home, families can search for all sorts of things in their own photo collections – from day trips to Bangor to bungee jumps in Niagara. What's more, the technology within the Pholio box will evolve for individuals based on their specific interests and collections - each box will end up understanding different things depending on its owner. The basic Pholio device can store up to 500 gigabytes of data, whilst Pholio Pro offers a storage capacity of 2TB. Prices start at £199.

Beyond Words

PhotoAid Global photographer Eleonora Oleotto has teamed up with glass artist Diana Dias-Leao for a joint exhibition supporting the survivors of the Grenfell Tower disaster. Diana has been given space in two galleries in Faroe Road and Masbro Road to hold exhibitions of glass and photography works donated by artists to be sold in order to raise as much money as possible for the Grenfell Tower survivors.

Eleonora Oleotto uses therapeutic photography in her practice to help people and other professionals like coaches and psychologists, she recently joined PhotoAid Global who is supporting the project. “The 14th of June was a difficult and intense day for me too. I helped volunteers sort items and then felt the need to walk into the area to see and feel what other people were going through. It took me some hours before being able to start taking pictures. There was Silence. A deep Silence. Our eyes talked to each other. Our hands helped each other. There was a big and deep sense of humanity. As it should be always in our lives.” Click through / read on to find out about the Beyond Words exhibition dates and times.
